We were tasked with making a piece for a Holocaust themed art contest that would indirectly bring light to the circumstance. I choose to make a muti-medium piece that combines both snow and fire with two hands that are separated by a pane of glass. The separation and contradiction of ice and fire are to symbolize the mixed feelings of frustration and sadness running through peoples minds in the time. All of this is encapsulated within a picture frame to show the importance of the separation between the two figures and how heartbreaking such a situation it. The fire is supposed to be suppressed by the snow as the piece is named, "the flames shall cease" to establish this event should never take place again.
